Here’s another easy way I’ve found to lose some extra weight without making a major life change. Not only that, but it’s made me more productive in getting things done, too!
And I can’t think why I never thought of this before, except that maybe all the reading I’ve been doing about walking for weight loss has made me more aware of how I move through life.
See, I suddenly noticed that I’m slow.
Just going from one room to another around the house, picking up laundry or doing any other of the normal household chores, my natural speed is a casual stroll.
So this past week, I’ve picked up the pace.
When the doorbell rings, I march briskly to the door as if the person on the doorstep won’t wait there another minute. When I run the vacuum cleaner, I do so with vigor. When I’m cooking, I whiz from cupboard to fridge to counter top like a short-order cook at dinner hour.
5 minute warm-up
35-50 minutes walk at level 6
5 minute cool-down
stretching
It’s about moving more, too, as well as just moving more quickly.
Instead of settling into a comfy armchair for a telephone chat, I put on a headset and do a few chores at the same time — dusting, tidying, anything that requires me to move around but doesn’t take a lot of thought. That way, I can enjoy the conversation while burning off a few extra calories at the same time.
And there’s another bonus to being “on the go” that I hadn’t anticipated (besides getting more done in the day, I mean).
That mid-afternoon “down time”? You know, that point around 3:00 p.m. when a nap starts to seem like a good idea?
Gone!
