Smart Bamboo Salad Bowl

by Domestik Goddess on July 30, 2007

bamboo salad bowl with serving utensilsIf you’ve got a fairly dainty set of salad tongs or utensils, you probably can’t count the times they’ve slipped into the salad bowl… and all your lovely salad dressing gets all over the handles.

That usually happens to me just when I’m carrying the salad to the table — and then I’ve got to scoot back to the kitchen for a quick rinse before we can serve up. Or a big bowl of pasta-in-sauce? Same thing.

(Okay, on the scale of global challenges, a pair of slipping salad tongs or serving spoon might not be an earth-shaking issue. But it’s a damned nuisance.)

I’ve been known to clip an ordinary wooden clothes pin onto the handle of a serving spoon, to keep it from slipping into the pasta bowl. (Yes, it works!) But a utilitarian old clothespin is way less attractive than this solution — a bamboo serving bowl with a cut-out in the rim to keep the utensils from slipping.

Don’t you love it when a design feature turns out to be both practical in daily life — and elegant in its simplicity?
