Best Friends Primitive Dolls

by domestika on February 26, 2007

We’re not talking full-blown Traditional Country style, necessarily, but there’s definitely a place in the world for the primitive style. One or two well-crafted folk art items, carefully placed, can make a strong personal statement and inject a bit of humour into even the most minimalist of urban-hip decor.

Jackie Thompson’s work caught my eye recently as a promising example of something that could work in a range of style settings, notably the primitive dolls she’s calling “Best Friends”:

These girls are best friends. They do everything together. When you see one you see the other. They are about 16 inches tall. They are made out of muslin, their hair is wool and their shoes are painted on. Their faces are drawn on.

The pattern is from “Gathering Stitchers,” and the work is signed and dated by the artist.

Thanks for the link and thanks for dropping in, Wendy! I’ve just been grooving on your Thomas the Tank Engine — nice tutorial for a very cute cake!
