Chinese Symbols for a Gift of Good Luck

Fu… Lu… Shou…
With the current trend towards an Asian or Oriental theme decor here in the “global village,” and a sustained interest in Feng Shui, we Westerners have learned to recognize the names given to three of China’s good luck symbols, popular motifs for home decor and wedding gifts.

Fu [Good Luck, blessings and good fortune] is one of the most popular Chinese characters used in Chinese New Year. It is often posted upside down on the front door of a house or an apartment. The upside down fu means good luck came since the character for upside down in Chinese sounds the same as the character for came.

Blessings (Fu), prosperity (Lu), and long life (Shou) symbols come together here on Good Orient’s silk table runners, and Fu brings its own blessings to calligraphy cushion covers, appropriately sold in a set of two — stylish wedding gift ideas, with an extra-special message.
