cross stitched monkey throw pillow When I came across this handmade monkey pillow by LocoDiego, there was something about the colours and the funky little creature himself that immediately made me think of Tracy Porter’s fabulous Rhapsody monkey bowl. Wouldn’t that be a fun pair, all gypsy-bohemian and surprising, in an otherwise formal room?

Cross-stitch, like other traditional needlework arts, is absolutely huge as a home decor trend right now, of course… but now I’m starting to wonder… Are monkeys the new penguins? (I rather hope so, truth be told, because I’m totally over those ubiquitous tuxedo birds…)

@Jerseygirl89, hey, another Jen? And aren’t you the Reading Goddess? I like it… Are monkeys the new penguins? — Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all, I’d be tickled pink to have you swipe my line!

@Sumangali, you are so very cool, how could your mother be otherwise? I’d love to see a pic of your plum blossom cross-stitch!

I’m chuffed to bits that cross-stitch is The Thing these days. Not being a domestic goddess (although of course I secretly “wanna be”) I had absolutely no idea.

My mother has a very tall Chinese plum blossom branch in the hall that I cross-stitched for her during a recent spell of illness. I’m sure she also has no idea how cool that makes her :-)

I’m never going to be a domestic goddess of any sort, but can I please still your line, “Are monkeys the new penguins?” I’ll credit you. It just tickles me to death.
