Artistic expression (Rapunzel) and not getting your shoes mixed up with someone else’s (Anne), plus you get to look sharp under the most unflattering circumstances (Pinhole) — on top of the joy of extending the life of some deserving footwear! What more could one ask? Oh, yeah, and a design contest thrown in for good measure. Yeah, this is one of my all-time favourites!
A good friend of mine has a son recently graduated from UCLA. Although he studied engineering, he’s quite the artist, and has been painting tennis shoes for years. They’re truly works of art that we’ve tried to get him to sell, but he won’t do it. I think it’s a great project to do with kids — anything that gets them thinking creatively. They don’t get enough of it in school.
