Easy Microwave White Sauce

by Domestik Goddess on February 23, 2006

If you can make a decent white sauce, you’re in good shape to throw together a last-minute casserole or to gussy up some leftovers.

Make the sauce in the microwave, and supper is even easier — quick, and no risk of burning the sauce, with no nasty gummy pot to wash up afterwards.

Microwave White Sauce

In a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl, melt 1/4 cup of butter or margarine. Stir in 4 heaping Tablespoons of flour, then add 3 cups of milk. Microwave on High for 4 minutes. Take it out and beat well with a whisk, then microwave the sauce for another 4 minutes or until thickened.

For an easy cheese sauce, just add grated cheddar to taste (about 1/2 cup) when the white sauce has thickened, and stir until it’s melted in.

I’m always in favour of any sauce that can be done quickly. Thanks for the recipe, Jen.
