Frugal Fashion

It’s probably clear by now that I am the, ahem, frugal type. Still, even a dedicated Country Mouse wants to step out in style from time to time — and that means a periodic shopping trip to update the closet. Funny, but the jeans-and-plaid-shirt look just doesn’t cut it for a client meeting…

Spring Coats on Glam.comNow, perhaps the best way to shop for fashion is to leave anyone male at home and take a fourteen-year-old girl along to give brutally honest advice. Painful, even humiliating at times, but effective.

The main drawback is that teenagers don’t tend to have the well-developed frugality instinct of an older generation with, oh, a mortgage to pay!

So, I turn to the internet for advice. And here’s the best-ever bit of advice to come out of the Look Luxe for Less department:

Show attitude! If you feel secure, confident, and fabulous, you simply are. And that doesn’t cost a dime.

Amen to that!
But feeling fabulous won’t keep off the chill or that spring shower that comes out of nowhere when you’re three blocks from the nearest Starbucks.

I’m reluctantly forced to admit that I need a new spring coat. Conveniently, Glam.com shows variations on three trendy styles, all sorted rather delightfully into price categories from “My Rent Money” down to “My Lunch Money”…

Hmm, that sharp little Mossimo trench is affordable — and I bet I won’t see a single teenaged girl roll her eyes at my frugal fashion statement!
