Seeking an alternative to the chaotic shelf stuffed full of cardboard boxes, my current method of storing shoes (why do I own so many pairs, anyway?), I came across a truly unique solution.
Winner of the GOOD DESIGN 2006 Award in the Personal Products category… the shoe storage wheel by Danilo Torro of Rakku Designs boasts twenty adjustable pockets holding up to thirty pairs of shoes, depending on whether they’re slim tennies or high-heeled pumps. You just slip the shoes in between rows of elastic bands.
I’m not sure it’s the first choice for frugal moi โ at $65 (US dollars) plus shipping โ but the shoe storage wheel is certainly a stand-out in a world that’s traditionally organized with cubes and boxes.
And if your shoes, like mine, are not all quite pretty enough to be on full-time display, just keep the shoe storage wheel tucked away in your closet and roll it out for easy selection when it’s time to change up from Reeboks to dancing shoes.
