Grammy Glam At Home

by domestika on February 11, 2007

It’s interesting how closely the Grammy Awards fashion — I’m watching the red carpet parade as I write — reflects the same major trends we’re seeing in home decor for 2007.

On the red carpet tonight, I’m seeing a lot of warm neutrals (pale gold, tobacco brown, cream) and as much of rich midnight navy blue as there is of classic black. Cobalt blue, one of my all-time favourite colours and one of the hottest new accent colours in the decorating world, is noticeable in the crowd: I think I even spotted the eye-popping blue in a satin tie and hanky against a dark suit, somewhere there in the crowd.

Fuschia, too, but one shade towards the blue-purple rather than the hot-pink we saw in previous years. This fuschia reminds me of a sari that an Indian friend wore to a wedding last August, woven with gold threads… Metallics — yes, there are lots of metallics here on the red carpet, just as we’re seeing metallics in the home (and especially the intriguingly complex antique gold, bronze, and aged copper).

Lots of floating or beautifully draped lightweight semi-sheer fabrics (again, the Mysterious East makes its influence felt), and oh, the embellishments! Beads, lace, more of the metallic embroidery, it’s all Global Village meets 1930s Old Hollywood glamour in styles, hair, makeup, accessories…

Chandelier earrings are everywhere — and is it a coincidence that chandeliers are making a big comeback in home lighting? I think not!

Ah, the show’s just started and there’s Sting, looking exceptional, as hot as he ever did in the ’80s, sleeveless in a tight black vest! Must go away and give this my undivided attention… Roxanne! You don’t have to wear that dress tonight…

In Style gallery this a.m. I saw a piece on celebs in cobalt sapphire blue. It looks too bright for a blond like me but super on Demi Moore!

Thanks for stopping by and for the link, kailee. Yes, you’re right that it’s a difficult blue for delicate blonds to wear, because it’s so strong - but great and flexible / adaptable when used as an accent colour in the home!

With yellow & white it does an easy update on classic French Country, for example, or with other hot accents and loads of embroidery for a taste of Guatemala on the far other end of the spectrum…. It’s one of the few blue tones that can hold its own with basic black-and-white, too.
