Not that I ever remember to put on an apron, but there’s something downright irresistable about a frilly vintage hostess apron. It probably has something to do with memories of my childhood in bungalow suburbia…
When the neighbourhood ladies came around, my mother would tie on a sweet organdy apron with a V-shaped hem and a heart-shaped pocket to serve thin-cut lemon bread and tea in actual china cups with actual saucers.
Being a slightly less frilly sort of person than my mother is, however, I’ve never actually gone to the trouble of seeking out vintage pattern and sewing up a replica of her apron. But I still love to look!
Which is what I was doing over at the vintage apron patterns group on Flickr, when I spotted this slinky Harlequin Apron.
How fabulous is that? Much more Rat Pack than Sixties Suburbs, somehow. This apron I could be motivated to get out the sewing machine to make for myself!

I can almost bet you that’s a bunch of handkerchiefs or dinner napkins sewn together. That apron would be a breeze to put together. I love it!
