Stormy Weather

by Domestik Goddess on May 27, 2006

Are humans a species of hopeless optimists? Maybe! — a conviction that things will somehow “turn out for the best” could be part of basic human nature… Well, that’s all very well, but ignoring the gathering storm clouds won’t change the weather coming in!

Mac Hunter’s post about getting ready for hurricane season totally shocked me today with a quote from the Outer Banks Sentinel:

A poll of 1,277 residents in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia recently … found that 57 percent have done nothing to prepare for the hurricane season… only 18 percent had taken basic hurricane preparedness steps including purchasing bottled water, canned food, batteries or preparing a hurricane survival kit. Only 7 percent had prepared their home for a hurricane…

Faith can move a mountain, proverbially, true. But another famous proverb says that “God helps those who help themselves”!
