March morning landscape

by Domestik Goddess on March 12, 2008

The sun rises late on a morning in March, here in Atlantic Canada, but I love the silvery-gold quality of the light, and the way it shines on the ice-crusted snow. This photo shows the poor old battered greenhouse, with twin compost bins nearby and a glimpse of the bee yard in the background — the rose garden is out there too, but it’s completely buried by the snow! The funky little tree you see in the foreground is a butternut that I grew from an actual butternut nut (very proud of that): the deer give it a hard time, eating the tips and rubbing the bark of the trunk with their antlers, but so far it’s still surviving!

That picture of your crystalline paradise makes me wistful. Buds are popping out everywhere now and the anticipation of spring is vibrating in the soil…. but we didn’t get a Snow Day this year. I believe that I’m a bit jealous.

Enjoy the beauty!
