If the color system moguls at Pantone have their way, singles bars will soon be full of people asking each other, “What’s your color?” In a peculiar blend of astrology and marketing savvy, Pantone’s Colorstrology seeks to define the world in paint chips, assigning a color based on your birth date.

Pick your month and day of birth, and you’re given a color.

Me? Just call me Pantone 14-4510, “interesting, funny, committed” Aquatic… okay, I can live with that…

You have a great sense of humor and people love to laugh when you are near them. You have a unique way of seeing things. You are innovative and interesting and when confident, are extremely creative and resourceful.

That was the buttering-up part. Now for the constructive criticism, leading gently to the sales pitch…

Try not to let doubt or conflicting emotions impede your productivity and growth. Your personal color enhances your appealing nature. Wearing, meditating or surrounding yourself with Aquatic protects you from debilitating emotions while allowing you to receive the good fortunes that await you.

Um, wasn’t a very similar color used for soooooothing interiors of mental hospital and nursery schools, back in the early 1970s?

Oh, and the “savvy marketing” part…— www.PantoneUniverse.com! From color-coordination to world domination on the shoulders of superstitious stylistas! (You’re cordially invited to send an e-card, oh, and stop by the gift shop on your way out…)

Thanks Domestika, I know I know, I love grey actually, and it can be very beautiful. I published a poem about a grey day once, and it’s still one of my favourites. This result still made me laugh though. There I was, all excited, with all these gorgeous colours going through my head, and then… ! :-) Thanks for brightening my day, I love this blog!

Sharon: Sweet Lavendar? You surprise me! I always think of you more as a strong warm yellow – but perhaps that’s an association with your sunny Barbadoes.

(I couldn’t copy the color-specific info either, btw – short of taking a screenshot – so had to re-type it to share… I’ll just bet they do that on purpose!)

Sumangali: Oh, but grey can be all about misty mornings, dapple-grey pony, great swaths of soft grey velvet… Poetic? Most certainly – and not a bad colour for one who celebrates life’s lovely seredipity!

Thank goddess for this blog, it always cheers me up, and cracks me up even when I don’t need cheering or cracking.

I couldn’t resist going to find my colour, but it cracked me up even more to find the dreamy poetic description against the dullest shade of grey I’ve ever seen in my life.

Thanks Domestika. Grey brightened my day.

I’m Pantone 16-3931 (Feb 25). This was fun – I couldn’t find a way to copy the info.

Ooooh, I love stuff like this. Here is what mine said!

    Your
    Birthday: 12.03

    Your Color: CELESTIAL
    PANTONE® 18-4530
    PRIVATE
    INDEPENDENT
    QUICK MINDED

ALTHOUGH YOU are independent and strong, there is a sensitive side of you that remains hidden. It is that side that needs to be acknowledged and understood because it holds many of your deepest wishes. Try not to hide your feelings especially from those who are trying so desperately to understand you. Many people born on this day have a gift for dance and music. Your personal color helps blend your inner and outer world. Wearing, meditating or surrounding yourself with Celestial helps increase your ability to receive the love that you want and need.

This was fun, thanks for the link!
