What would a Domestik Goddess be without a repertoire of tried-and-true recipes?
Preferably the kind of thing you can whip up without breaking a sweat or a nail, all the while chatting with your guests and serving up the pre-meal bevvies…
And you can do all that, because you know those favourite recipes won’t fail.
My own recipe stash is still a mad disorganized mess of food splattered recipe cards in a box with a lid that won’t stay closed, but over the past few years I’ve been gradually writing up the pick of the bunch. For one thing, I’m making up a personalized recipe book as a gift for a soon-to-be-adult nephew who really needs to know how to feed himself properly. The book will include all his absolute favourite foods — like the cinnamon buns I’m affectionately obligated to bake every time he shows up, even in sweltering hot summer weather.
I’ve also been posting my favourite recipes here, one by one, every now and then. After all, the whole point of good food is to share, am I right? But when I misplaced that all-important cinnamon buns recipe the other day, couldn’t quite remember how much baking powder to use, and tried to search the answer out quickly, it was clear that it’s time for… ta-dah!
My Recipes: the Index
I’ve converted the “handful” and “pinch” measurements of my typical slap-dash cooking style into more specific measurements (teaspoons and cups, etc.) wherever possible and necessary. The goal was to put together an archive of recipes — most of them are for good things to eat, but some are for dog treats and goopy stuff to play with — all of them “tried and true” recipes that you can count on. And of course, I’ll keep adding to the list of recipe links as we go along, as I convert more recipes to the kind of instructions that other people can follow!
Bon appetit!
Oh, those cinnamon buns got me… I can almost taste them right now. But I like your idea of creating that special cookbook. That might be the perfect stocking stuffer for my son and his girlfriend. She actually likes to cook!
