I’m irresistably drawn to quilts, I just can’t help it. Maybe it’s the long tradition behind the craft, or the country comfort of snuggling under a quilt, or memories of all the women in my family who have made quilts over the years…
Whatever the reason, I am quickly running out of excuses for waiting to start making a quilt of my own!
I just found the “motherlode” of quilt templates and patterns at Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler. This blog gets its name from a quilt made by the characters in The Master Quilter, the seventh book in the Elm Creek Quilts series of novels by Jennifer Chiaverini. Every week or so, another of the templates (or a foundation paper piecing pattern) for one of the 140 different blocks in the quilt are posted on the site. Unbelievable…
The only problem now, I guess, is picking a pattern to start with — trying to decide on the colours and patterns of fabrics to use!
Mandy, nice to meet you! You’re lucky to have a quilter Mom to help you get started right! A nice mother-daughter tradition there in the making of sampler blocks and sampler quilts, too. :)
I found your site by accident. BUT, I love Elm Creek Quilters. I have just begun to read them and they are amazing. My Mom has been a quilter my whole life practically, but I am just starting. I will check back frequently. :-)
Ann, thanks for that update – and how exciting, a book! I’ll be keeping my eye out for that one.
Website for Sylvias Bridal quilt free patterns has been taken down. Book will be published in 2009 by Chiavarini with it.
Thank you for leading me to that site. I will be using it.
